The earthquakes in Myanmar Friday 28th March and the following aftershocks have led to massive human sufferings and the destruction of buildings and infrastructure. According to international media, 1.700 people have lost their lives, more than 3.400 have been injured and many are missing.
Following the catastrophe, Jotun has decided to donate NOK 1 million to our international partner Red Cross / Red Crescent, as a contribution to their humanitarian aid efforts in the region.
“We need to move fast with our search & rescue teams to make sure people get out of danger. At the same time, it is critical to provide water, food and medical supplies to those who have been evacuated or have had their homes destroyed”, according to a statement from the organization.
The donation is a part of Jotun’s Corporate Responsibility strategy, which is to take responsibility in the areas where we operate.
“We want to contribute with financial support in emergency situations in countries where Jotun is located. By choosing Red Cross/Red Crescent as our partner, we know that the money is spent according to our intention”, says Øyvind Willumsen Haugå, Group Communications Director.
