Jotun protects property. Our paints, coatings and solutions protect ships, buildings and infrastructure from degradation and corrosion. A key component in many of these assets is steel, the most common engineering material in the world.
However, steel production is highly energy intensive. In a recently published report, preventing steel corrosion – and thereby reducing the need for steel production – is highlighted as one of the keys to a more sustainable future.

According to the leading rating of companies’ sustainability performance, Jotun climbs to the top 5%. The Gold score is a result of dedicated work across functions.
To ensure quantifiable numbers on how much CO₂ emissions Jotun coated vessel have avoided thanks to its coatings in 2024, DNV Maritime Advisory has performed a technical evaluation. With 11.1 million tons avoided CO₂ for its customers in 2024, the effect of Jotun’s Hull performance is proven and stands as a testament to Jotun’s Clean shipping commitment.
Utilizing clean energy is a key initiative throughout Jotun. In Vietnam, we now run 36% on solar power and the rest is secured from certified renewable energy sources.
